Living in Arizona, families have the freedom of school choice. One great option for many families is an online school program; however, sometimes students still require significant guidance navigating their online courses. I provide one-on-one support for this very reason. In this role, I will do the following:
With a reputation for success, I provide highly effective instruction of proven test-taking strategies in an individual or small group setting for the following exams:
Applying to college is such an exciting, yet often stressful experience. Let me help accentuate your child's strengths and help make him or her stand out, while saving you the headache and frustration! I can streamline the college planning process for you. We can create a package that helps your family the most-- mixing and matching from the following services:
“The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.”
Sound familiar? The above quote, attributed to Socrates circa the 5th century BCE, always makes me laugh: since recorded history, adolescents have been getting a bad rap! But modern-day brain research shows us that these poor kids can’t help many of their frustrating behaviors.
People often balk when I tell them I am a middle school teacher— they’re sarcastic, disrespectful and smelly. But when I meet an adolescent, all I see is possibility.
Adolescents make so many subconscious decisions about who they are during this critical developmental period. As someone who struggled painfully during adolescence myself, I have nothing but honor and empathy for every single one of my students.
Over the last nine years, I've been helping struggling learners find success through their individual learning style as a teacher and private tutor. I build trust with adolescents and help them find their own voices to self-advocate.
In 2005, I graduated from Baylor University in Waco, Texas with a Bachelor of Arts in History & Anthropology and spent the following summer studying archaeology in Beijing, Xi'an and Chengdu, PRC through the International Scholar Laureate Program.
After being turned down several times, I was finally hired in 2009 as a middle school teacher at my dream school, one of the largest public Montessori schools in Texas. In 2011, I completed my secondary Montessori training and certification at Houston Montessori Center where I studied adolescent brain research and communication strategies. That year, I was also a recipient of the D.A.T.E grant award for improving instructional quality and raising student achievement on standardized tests.
For the past six years, I have been a lead teacher and tutor at a reputable, A-rated Montessori charter school in Scottsdale and now am solely focused on my business, doing what I do best— working with adolescents.
I empower, encourage and hopefully, make them laugh along the way. I truly believe for any challenge they may face, there is always a solution—the possibilities are infinite.
Academic challenges are usually only a symptom of deeper underlying issues. I believe in treating the WHOLE child. By doing so, not only will your child develop strategies to improve his or her grades, students will ultimately gain the following skills:
"I have known Ms. Caitlin Collins for 6 years. She taught both my older daughter and my son. Throughout the years, I had the opportunity to see not only the end result of her teaching, but also got to observe her in action in the classroom!
Although my two kids couldn’t be more different, they both absolutely loved her! Ms. Collins somehow has the ability to be very likable, but still maintain authority and boundaries. She knows when to joke and when to be firm.
More importantly, she seems to be the “tutoring whisperer”—finding unique and unconventional ways to get through to kids who have trouble understanding concepts. My son told me a story about how he was trying to help his classmate memorize a vocabulary list, and try as he might, he absolutely could not get through to his classmate. He relayed this to Miss Collins, who advised him to go outside with his classmate and allow him to shoot baskets, but only if he can successfully define the vocabulary word. Suddenly, after hours of frustration, the child memorized his vocabulary list!
My son was dreading starting an IB program in high school, and the only thing that changed his attitude for the better was when I promised him he would continue having Ms. Collins as a tutor throughout high school.
There are many tutors and tutoring services available, but Ms. Collins is unique. She has the uncanny ability to understand each child and teenager, and figure out how to tailor her teaching so that she gets through to her students as individuals. She is invested in their success. She makes learning fun."

"I have known Caitlin since 2013 when my first son entered middle school. Since then, I have had two more boys flourish under Caitlin’s guidance. Each one of my boys has struggled with language and writing skills and Caitlin has been able to fill in gaps as well as draw out creative thinking for them to improve on their writing. In addition, one of my sons has special needs which has impacted his processing skills, reading comprehension and writing skills. Caitlin was amazing at finding him just the right materials that were age appropriate (teenage content) yet applicable to his reading and writing skills. All her years as a Montessori teacher truly has spoken to her ability to teach to the individual child, and not impose generic standards that can be difficult for some students to grasp. After all these years of seeing my children grow and mature I can confidently recommend Caitlin for providing academic support."
"I have known Caitlin Collins personally and professionally for seven years. I consider her to be one of the brightest (and funniest!) people I have ever met. Caitlin is an extraordinary educator. She forms a positive relationship with her students to help them round out their academic skills and build their determination to succeed. She is also playful and kind. Students trust her and have fun learning with her. Caitlin is an energetic self-starter and always looks for new and innovative ways to make the material more exciting. Her enthusiasm and creativity is an inspiration to me, and definitely what I would look for in a tutor."
“Ms. Collins has taught two of my children in a classroom setting and they absolutely loved her style of teaching! They found her to very patient and kind and knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the material she was teaching. She figures out how your child learns and then establishes the best way to teach them! Her Montessori background is a huge plus to the learning experience. Having her help your child will be a gift to your child.”
